Seraphina Samet (or Anderson)

Today's guest speaker showed a selection of her screen based work, short films made using super8 cameras and montage effects. It seemed as if she was using the digital medium as a therapeutic process, all the work is about herself, filmed, edited and starring herself, and by displaying it to the audience, its gives her the opportunity to exorcise her demons. Whether or not the audience are willing to play counsellor is debatable, i found the images presented on screen lacked substance, there was nothing engaging about the work, and she had nothing interesting or important to say. There were some nice ideas in there, but it did seem way to self indulgent for my tastes, its all very well making films about yourself if your have an interesting story to tell, but if the content is dull and uninspiring, then i wonder if it worth the time and effort. I accept that all experience is personal, and everything you experience in life shapes how you are and what you produce, but there's a whole would out there that can be explored and commented on, to base all your work totally on yourself seems to be self obsessed- you can produce work and develop your take on the world without you being the total focus of attention.

"Cause there are two kinds of ego. There's the Ellie Rees one, arrogant, self obsessed, narcissistic *bitch*. Then there's the Seraphina"

'bitter, humourless, guys who like to call women "bitches"'

sorry makingbread i don't recall calling anyone a bitch. Self indulgent and self obsessed i think i mentioned -but not 'bitch'. It's interesting you use the words 'bitter' and 'humourless', two characteristics that are highly present in Seraphina's work. If they had some element of humour , the audience might find the work more accessible, instead of being alienated when watching the self indulgent adolesent whinging.

For reference, a group of deer is commonly called a 'herd'.

why do these friends of seraphina keep leaving these quotes.. they are trying to argue her case, but aren't really clearly defining their argument.
its obvious they have read everyones posts on her presentation, and everyone(15 or so people) seems to be coming out with the same views and issues. so, is that not saying something?
we did not mean harm to her, but WE ARE entitled to our own opinion? obviously sepraphina and her friends believe otherise.......

Hello,

A journalist friend recently googled me and found this piece on me and my work. I would be really grateful if you could remove it, as it is coming up whenever people google me- and I do not want future employers to see this!

Thanks,

Seraphina Samet

Ha! Seraphina, I reckon it’s not your prospects which will be affected by these comments. Anyone reading this badly written, illiterate collection of personal abuse masquerading as ‘art criticism’ would have to wonder about the maturity and intelligence of divergeddesigns (too cowardly to put out his real name) and zacharycolbert who make insulting comments, make insulting assumptions, about a young woman they have absolutely no knowledge of, who came, unpaid, even with a courtesy cup of tea from the ‘tutor’ to show and talk about her work, and was treated to an audience of juvenile, giggling, illiterate, fools. Obviously Seraphina Samet, a graduate of St Martins, and The Royal College of Art, was very naïve to think that she might get an intelligent response in such an institution as this so called ‘college’.
I too could make all kinds of assumptions about, zacharycolbert and divergeddesigns. I’ve never met them, but hey, comment’s free on the internet…..
